In this 6 hour beginner workshop you will learn the fundamentals of working with silver clay which will allow you to create some fantastic pieces of jewellery. You don’t need any experience and you don’t need to bring anything with you. All the tools and equipment you need are provided including enough silver clay, to make 2-3 pieces of jewellery. Additional silver clay is available to buy on the day should you wish to make something bigger.
You will be shown how to set up your workstation and then how to cut, texture and refine your piece ready for firing and then enjoy the magical experience of turning your work into silver.
You’ll also discover some tips and tricks for polishing and finishing your silver jewellery. And, in addition to our 3 hour taster sessions, you will also learn to make your own bails, work with moulding compound, add patina and even have the opportunity to torch fire one of your pieces.
A silver chain and bail are included for you to finish your jewellery and a gift box for you to take your pieces home.
And, if you wish to continue your silver clay journey, there will be silver clay starter kits and tools available as well as details of other up and coming silver clay workshops. All these are available with a 'Studio Day' Special Discount.
What is Silver Clay?
Silver clay is tiny particles of fine recycled silver that has been mixed with an organic binder. Developed in Japan around 30 years, silver clay can be moulded, shaped and textured before drying. Once dried, it can be filed, smoothed and even engraved. The clay is then fired, either in a kiln or with a blowtorch and the firing process burns off the binder and fuses the silver. And, yes it is real silver! It can be officially hallmarked at any UK Assay Office.
Please read the full T&C's prior to booking.
Over 14’s only for this workshop for Health and Safety Reasons.
Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.
Please be aware that you will not be able to make stud earrings or rings in this workshop. Making stud earrings with silver clay is a more advanced skill level and requires soldering techniques using 2 different types of silver, although these are taught in other workshops. In addition, ring making requires a clear understanding of clay types and shrinkage etc. and more practice of the fundamentals before attempting to make a ring. Again, ring making is available in a separate workshop.
